Appi – The Centre of Northern Tohoku

Aomori, Akita and Iwate. Northern Tohoku consists of these three prefectures. Being in the centre of Northern Tohoku, Appi is only a few hours away from major tourist destinations in each of the three prefectures.
The region is well known for its rich nature including countless hot springs, good rice and Sake, and humble people. The region also has two World Heritage. One is Shirakami-sanchi on Akita – Aomori border, the other one is Hiraizumi in Iwate. Shirakami-sanchi retains the largest virgin beech forest in East Asia and Hiraizumi shows signs of flourished city and Pure Land Buddhism developed under the patronage of the city in the 11th to 12th century. Konjikido (the Golden Hall) of Chuson-ji temple from the 12th century looks astonishingly gorgeous. It is a must-see while you are in the region.
This mountainous region is a paradise for hikers/mountain climbers from Spring to Autumn and skiers in Winter. Soaking in hot spring after outdoor activities is another paradise. Rich nature beautifully changes its backdrop by season, impress visitors deeply with ever-changing awesome views.
Lots to see, lots to eat and lots to enjoy in Northern Tohoku.
Come and see for yourself!
